The Pacemaker is a cool little mixing device that syncs beats and was launched quiet recently. I downloaded their Editor to make some mixes on my own computer at work. However I was having trouble with creating new mixes. So after several attempts and 0% of my songs getting uploaded and a couple of crashes - I ventured into their forum area. There I found a number of other people complaining about the device and similar types of problems that they were having with both the device and the editor.
People were angry and rightly so.
People splashed out over five hundred euros on the device.
What concerned me was that there was no presence in the community forum from Pacemaker themselves (you need to sign up to see the actual comments), monitoring the customers concerns and issues. It more bothered me that the complaints had been posted 3 weeks ago and noone had got back to the customers. This is just bad customer service. Full stop.
I'm quite sure the people, that created Pacemaker, are very intelligent people. So why dont they provide a standard and level of support AND customer service that matches this?
This for me is a crystal clear reason, as to why you need to hire people to monitor and manage your community. Especially a new community that you are trying to build. Pacemaker are demonstrating how *not* to manage theirs.
This in the long run is only going to lose them business as
1. They dont reply to their customers needs
2. Not doing so generates bad word of mouth coverage.
Theres no point bringing out a slick looking device out if thats all it is - a slick looking device.Otherwise all you have then is a nice looking device with no substance behind it.You wont build yourself any real credibility or community if you dont cater to its needs and certainly wont win over any more new customers. Without customers you have no business.
Personally I think its just plain and downright disrespectful and insulting. Especially to their customers - who parted with more than five hundred of their euros. You wouldnt get away with it in a shop and you should not get away with it online.

David Bowie charges for subscription to his site.
For $64.99 you get:
"The David Bowie Premium Membership gives you full access to all areas of DavidBowie.com including the Community area where you can chat with other David Bowie fans sometimes the man himself.
Plus, you will also gain early access to David Bowie concert tickets. The Fan Club is open to David Bowie fans worldwide and whenever David Bowie is on tour, you will have early access to tickets!
* Priority ticketing before the general public
* Access exclusive photo and video content from the road
* Members-only Message Boards
* Live and Well Double CD
* Plus lots more including wallpapers, buddy icons, exclusive galleries, fan interaction and some surprises!"
I think he makes full use of his site, making him elusive and exclusive.I'm sure plenty of his fans have signed up.Its something that Madonna and co should pay attention to.Her YouTube video has almost had 2 million hits.
Not surprising for David Bowie though hes well ahead of the curve.
He already knows that it will be difficult to earn a living from the making of actual songs. As he said you'd better be prepared for doing a lot of touring.

I have a great deal of respect for Madonna. She works very hard and gets results.Shes a proper professional.Somehow though I think she should have been a little bit more market savvy when it came to launch/leak of her songs. It was going to happen-they were bound to get stolen.I can listen to the entire album from my PC for free. However in an era when music is free, she and in particular her team, should have *really* known better.I don't understand why she didn't take the Nine Inch Nails approach of marketing-one and a something million dollars is better than stolen music.
I'm surprised, as I thought with the release of her last album Confessions on a Dance Floor and her Madonna.com website, with tagging and all, that she had gone out and hired some smart people to do up her site.It just goes to show you with the constant evolution of the technological ecosystem, that you cant afford to sit on your laurels, with respect to any aspect of new technology and the new marketing in particular.
I also think with the recent video that she posted on YouTube that she now realizes that she has to give up control. That might be proving slightly difficult for her.

Musicovery.com - another gorgeous flash based music playing device.Again very like Web based radio. Its a tool that allows you, just like in real life, to select music according to your mood.Ranging from Dark to Positive and from Energetic to Calm.

I just love Boomshuffle. Its like a real Internet radio only your way, with loads of colourful, bright pictures and above all, comes with album art, which moves in the widget, as the music shuffles and plays for you from within your blog! Its fun too-as you can share the mixes you create with your friends.Your friends get to add tracks they love to the mixes you are working on too, if you wish to share your mix.Its for free.Music *is* becoming like water...

YourSpins is a great site for playing around and remixing songs. It also allows you to to blog your remix when finished.I built a remix very easily on the site, of a song belonging to the lovely Sia.She is also available on youTube as another remix by the DJ Sander Van Doorn. Damn is he talented.
